Dr. Oberschneider of the Ashburn Psychological Services is a Clinical Psychologist and the Director of Ashburn Psychological Services in Ashburn, Virginia.  Dr. Oberschneider was a professional ballet dancer for several years before returning to school to study psychology in 1990.  He had the pleasure of dancing with the Boston Ballet Company, the Milwaukee Ballet Company, the Atlanta Ballet Company and Universal Ballet Theater.

As a psychologist, Dr. Oberschneider has spent a considerable amount of time working with dancers.  In 2003, Dr. Oberschneider served as Chief Mental Health Consultant to the Rock School, the official ballet school for the Pennsylvania Ballet Company.  In his capacity as consultant, Dr. Oberschneider worked closely with staff, dancers (both those within the boarding school and those living locally) when called upon.  In 1997, Dr. Oberschneider published an article on dance that was published in the prestigious research journal, the Archives of Sexual Behavior.

Dr. Oberschneider is available to Cynthia Donovan and her staff at Classical Ballet Academy, as well as to her students and families, on an as needed basis.  Having been a dancer himself, Dr. Oberschneider fully understands the many positives of dance, as well as the demands and stresses the dance environment and pursuit can place on normally developing children or adolescents.   Given the competitive nature of dance and the unique commitment and responsibilities associated with being a dancer, dancers are at a greater risk for experiencing social-interpersonal, emotional, and at times, behavioral difficulties.  Dr. Oberschneider and his team can provide consultation, presentations, diagnostic evaluations, treatment and medication (when warranted).  To learn more about Dr. Oberschneider and Ashburn Psychological Services, please visit:  www.ashburnpsych.com.
